Project Brief:

The water requirement to the plant needed to increase and the existing treatment plant was already running at capacity, as were the electrical services supplying the Water Treatment Plant.

  • Design and install a new Motor Control and Power distribution centre, relocate the existing mains cabling (both ends) and install a submain cable to the existing switchboard.

  • Install wiring and switchgear for 10 pumps, 7 of which were VSD controlled via Devicenet.

  • Install outdoor field cabinets with Devicenet Remote I/O to control the process valves and monitor the field instruments, which included Turbidity, Pressure, Flow and pH.

  • Supply and install an Omron CS1 PLC (which will eventually incorporate the existing Omron C200H PLC hardware,) and program the new plant, while interfacing with the existing plant.

  • Supply and program a Wonderware Intouch SCADA system, with Ethernet comms to both PLCs and to their existing SCADA network.

We have had a long association with EPIC Systems, and as such they were an obvious contender for automating our new Water treatment Plant. The electrical installation was well thought out and implemented, allowing for incorporation of our existing plant, and future expansion and modifications.

There were big challenges with keeping our existing plant running, while integrating the new system, but EPIC Systems completed the project seamlessly.
